Marrakech

Scouting notes from the studio — where we'd photograph a wedding here, and how we'd plan the light. We're currently booking Marrakech dates.

Marrakech is a city built in our palette — rose-pink walls, olive and citrus courtyards, brass light through carved screens. It photographs like a place that has been rehearsing for film cameras for nine hundred years, and its weddings move between two perfect stages: the intimacy of a riad and the emptiness of the desert an hour away.

Where we'd shoot

Riad courtyards
The classic Marrakech wedding: a historic courtyard house taken over entirely — ceremony by the fountain, dinner under the orange trees, rose petals on the tiles. Zellige, carved cedar, and lantern light give the film stock everything it loves.
The medina at dusk
The pink hour is literal here — the walls go rose-gold as the sun drops, and the lanes empty just enough for a couple to move through them. We'd walk a scouted route: a doorway, a spice court, a rooftop for the last light over the Koutoubia.
Garden pavilions
The city's storied gardens — olive groves, reflecting pools, cactus courts in saturated blue and ochre — host ceremonies and portraits where the architecture does the flowers' job. Where photography needs arranging, we arrange it early.
The Agafay desert
An hour out: stone desert, Atlas peaks on the horizon, camps of white tents and lanterns. Golden hour here is the frame couples fly for — one couple, one dune line, one long shadow. Day-after sessions were invented for this.

The light, honestly

Desert-edge light is strong and confident: crisp mornings, fierce middays best spent in courtyard shade, then a long amber evening that ends in a pink so specific it should be trademarked. October through April is the season; spring brings roses and mild nights. Courtyards effectively add hours to the shooting day — the architecture was designed as shade.

Planning notes

Marrakech weddings are multi-day by nature — welcome dinner in the riad, main day, desert session after — and the photography plan should breathe the same way. Local planners are worth their weight in brass here for permissions and logistics; we work gladly alongside them. Travel quoted flat, and we'd build the desert hour into the contract from day one so it never becomes a maybe.
